I’ve been taking Flintstone vitamins lately (chewables are the only ones my stomach can handle) and it made me wonder, do the Brits have the Flintstones? If so, do Fred and Wilma speak with British accents? I can see where they might transplant the Flintstones to, say, Spain, and dub the dialog in Spanish. But if they broadcast the Flintstones in England, do they bother to change the accents? And what about the Family Guy? Do Peter and Lois speak with British accents, while Stewie speaks with an American one? Because if they don’t, how can the Brits possibly get how funny Stewie is when his accent must seem perfectly normal to them?
Furthermore, if the Brits don’t have the Flintstones, do they still have Flintstone vitamins? If so, what on earth do they think of the strange characters they’re chewing on? If not, how do they get their kids to take vitamins?
One of my favorite bloggers, The Life Laundry, is a British girl with an amazing talent for photography. You should check her blog out because it’s fantastic, and also maybe she’ll answer these questions for us. Of course, if they don’t have the Flintstones in England, she may have no idea what I’m talking about and simply think I’ve lost my mind. (Which I have, but that’s beside the point.) Call me naive, but somehow I can’t imagine there’s an entire culture out there that has no idea who the Flintstones, the Jetsons, or the Simpsons are. Next you’ll be telling me the Brits have their own version of Jeopardy.

Family Guy and Jeapordy I don't know (would that be an age thing?) but I grew up with the Flintstones with their American accents intact, in fact most of the cartoons I watched as a child were American. I've not seen Flintstones vitamins but then I've never looked. Of course I know the Simpsons - every time Joe Brown and I see a couple of white clouds in a blue sky, we sing "The Simp-sons!".

Thursday saves the day. Everyone go look at her blog because she rocks. Mahala, I wouldn't eat Flintstone gummies because the entire lure of the Flintstone vitamins for me is that, when chewed, they have the same consistency as cement. And I can dream, at least for a moment, that the sickly sweet cherry flavor is actually, well... yummy cement.
This cement thing is clearly getting out of hand Newduck. I now have a craving for Flintstones gummies, Thank You Very Much, even though I've never heard of them.
Also, I cannot spell jeopardy. Actually, yes I now can.
I hate vitamins, even the chewables. I just cannot stomach them. Yet, I have NEVER thought about the relation of Chewable vitamins and Cement before. That's brilliant!
Oh this post just made me giggle! So funny! I am a fan of Flintstones and not of vitamins. The worst is taking prenatals when prego .... who needs another reason to puke??? lol

I thought of you the other night while reading a Discover magazine article about pica. This one woman ate entire pads of paper every day. YUM.
I have a question: do the English think the Australians have an accent? And will the Baby New Duck have that funny WI accent when she starts talking?
Pica is a crazy, crazy disease, making me think this is a crazy, crazy world. When I was following those google searches of my blog, I found one that asked, "Is it okay if I eat five boxes of chalk per day?" Dude.
Anyway, I can answer the Brit question - yes, they do think the Aussies have an accent. What's weird is that I used to live with a Kiwi and she said the Aussies have an accent. I mean, for heaven's sake, they're just across the water from each other. I'm wondering if it's the same as a Californian thinking a New Yorker has an accent.
Also, baby duck isn't likely to grow up in WI. Depending, of course, on SOMEONE SOMEWHERE offering me a job... ANY JOB... ANYWHERE... ANYONE???
LOL as a Brit who grew up in Australia and the UK ..... any US programme that is spoken in English is not re-dubbed. We get Family Guy (my teenage daughter loves it) in full US gory, oops, glory!. As a kid, Flinstones in Oz was always as it is in the US.
I don't think we have Flinstones vits but we have vits in UK popular characters! Tellytubbies comes to mind but I could be wrong.
I love stewie. I can't imagine him without a British accent. I couldn't take it!
